Living up to the time, and building a dream of great beauty in Xinjiang; with utmost dedication, forming life-long love for Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. On March 6, 2019, Su Xianshuang, the Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Stomatology, a member of the second round of the ninth batch of cadres aiding Xinjiang from the Second Hospital of Shandong University, overcame the difficulties and went to Xinjiang Uiger Municipal People’s Hospital to carry out a 1.5-year medical aid mission. Now he has returned safely and triumphantly. His initiative has shown the willingness to take responsibilities of the medical workers of the Second Hospital of Shandong University. We will learn more about Su’s spiritual ascension and growth through his work experience and feelings during his time in Xinjiang.

As a member of the second round of the ninth medical team aiding Xinjiang selected from the CPC Central Committee and relevant national organs organized by the Organization Department, I set foot on this beautiful land for the first time with the trust of the authorities and leaders at all levels. Looking back on the past year and a half, I would like to express my gratitude to all levels of authorities, hospitals and departments for the trust they placed in me. They entrusted me with the important task of aiding Xinjiang, which gave me the opportunity to enrich, experience and improve myself. I would like to extend my gratitude to the leaders of the school, the hospital and the department and my colleagues for their care and help to my family during the period when I was in Xinjiang, since what they did relieve me from any worries and secure me to work even though I was thousands of miles away from home. I would like to thank the leaders and my colleagues from the Hospital for visiting me in Xinjiang and giving me more encouragement and support.

That was the first time I have been to Xinjiang and participated in the aid work, which allowed me to have a comprehensive and profound understanding of the great beauty of Xinjiang. Through the aid training and daily work and life, I truly realized the importance of the strategic position of Xinjiang for the country, came to realize the massive history of Xinjiang, and gradually understood the connotation of the great strategic thought of “Stabilizing the northwest and developing the southeast” and the overall goal for Xinjiang- “social stability and long-term peace and safety" proposed by the CPC Central Committee. Aiding Xinjiang, rather than simple technical assistance, is a strategic deployment for the comprehensive and balanced development of the country, national security, ethnic unity and long-term peace and stability of the country.

I worked in Xinjiang Uiger Municipal People’s Hospital. Here, I was major in prosthodontics in the general hospital and Suzhou Road branch of the Hospital. As exactly my specialty, I could give full play to my medical expertise. In addition to the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases requiring for prosthodontics, I was also responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of complex and refractory diseases. For such diseases, I needed to not only provide right diagnosis and treatment to relieve patients of pain, but also discuss with colleagues to make treatment plans, demonstrate clinical operations, assist colleagues in improving clinical work ability, and try to train medical backbones that cannot be taken away. In terms of medical teaching, I actively learned about the department business, and provided training for Standardized Residents Training Students, interns and new employees, resulting in significant improvement on their basic knowledge, basic skills and clinical thinking. In terms of scientific research, I actively took part in various scientific research activities organized by the Hospital and the Department. As a review expert, I participated in the fund review of the Hospital and guided the doctors in the Department to apply for scientific research fund. As the person in charge, I successfully applied for a poverty alleviation technology promotion project under the National Health Commission, and went to Pishan County, Minfeng County, Luopu County in Hetian and the First People's Hospital of Kashgar to conduct training and promotion, aiming to allow the grassroots to enjoy good diagnosis and treatment for their oral diseases and receive health care for oral hygiene.

I had never worked as a management personnel before, but during the past one and a half years, through study and practice, I have gained a new understanding of management work. While actively participating in the daily management of the Department, I strengthened quality control of medical records by carrying out training on the standardized writing of medical records, formulating evaluation standards, and checking the writing of medical records, which greatly improved the writing ability and standardization of medical records in the Department, especially among young doctors.

My work was recognized by the Department and the Hospital. In the annual assessment, I was rated as "Excellent" and awarded as "Excellent Expert Aiding Xinjiang".

Considering most people of all nationalities in Xinjiang were not aware of oral health care, I actively participated in the free-treatment and oral health knowledge education activities organized by the Department and the Hospital, and jointed the education program of "Famous Doctors in Xinjiang" in Xinjiang TV Station, and “Doctor on Air" of the Xinjiang Corps Broadcasting Station, with all these activities welcomed by the public. I participated in the medical visits of free-treatment for grassroots in Turpan, Hami and other places organized by the Health Commission of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, bringing knowledge on oral health tests, treatment, prevention and oral care to the grassroots, guiding lower-level doctors to improve their diagnosis and treatment skills and basic techniques. I was appointed as a specially-invited expert for Urumqi of Aiding Xinjiang Medical and Health Expert and expert for the Aiding-Xinjiang workstation in the People's Hospital of Pishan County. I also visited Tacheng People's Hospital and other grassroots hospitals to provide medical consultation, and kept in contact with those doctors through telephone, WeChat video and other channels to help them improve the diagnosis and treatment ability for oral diseases.

"A chance of aiding Xinjiang brings a lifelong bonding". I would like to express my gratitude to the colleagues in Xinjiang Uiger Municipal People’s Hospital for their care, help, support and understanding in my work and life. Although my aiding Xinjiang has ended, I will continue to focus on the overall goal of "social stability and long-term peace and safety" for Xinjiang. Following the requirements of "exchange, communication and integration" while doing my own work well, I will always care for Xinjiang, hoping to do something more for the cause of oral health in Xinjiang.

Thanks to this aid work, I deeply realize that personal work and growth are closely linked to the stability, unity and prosperity of the motherland. I feel honored and proud to be a part of this glorious and great cause. This aiding Xinjiang is destined to be an extremely important and extraordinary experience for me, as well as a precious treasure in my life.
