The Second Department of General Surgery of the Second Hospital of Shandong University, founded in 2014, has become a specialty with unique features, distinct academic style and certain reputation after persistent efforts, and made recognizable contributions to the general surgery development of the hospital. In 2000, it was granted with the right to issue the master’s degree, and now a part of the Shandong Provincial Construction Project of General Surgery Clinical Key Specialty.
Medical Members
The Department now owns 7 members devoted to medicine, teaching and research, including 1 master supervisor and 1 professor. Among them, there are 6 young and middle aged members below 45-year-old, accounting for 85.7%. All of them have a master’s degree and one is now pursuing a doctoral degree.
The Department has identified its academic leader and research direction, and is cultivating 7 Master Degree Candidates.
Clinical Medicine
The Department is at the provincial leading level in terms of laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery, hepatobiliary Surgery, gastrointestinal surgery and nutritional support, pancreas and thyroid surgery, hernia and abdominal wall surgery, etc.
In recent years, the Department has carried out in-depth, meticulous and characteristic study in minimally invasive surgery and gastrointestinal surgery with good results.
Scientific Research Level
The Second Department of General Surgery has undertaken 3 research projects of the province, the ministries and the commissions in succession with total research grant of RMB 300,000 Yuan, published over 20 papers on domestic and foreign journals and won one Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award, edited and co-edited more than 4 books, demonstrating its stunning strength and good conditions in scientific research. The academic leader Prof. Wang Peilin is now serving as a member of the Shandong Gastrointestinal Surgery Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Shandong Provincial Expert Base of Malpractice Appraising, and the review expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China, Health Commission and Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province. He also is a member of the editorial board of Laparoscopic Surgery and has won one 2nd Prize of Outstanding Science and Technology Progress Award of Shandong Province.
Academic Exchange and Cooperation
The General Surgery 2 has attended many international and domestic academic conferences.
A number of experts from the Chinese PLA General Hospital and Peking University Third Hospital are invited to the hospital for academic exchange in succession, through which, good cooperation relationship are established and academic development is promoted.
