The Department has been rewarded with the provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards for many times, and its related research is at domestic leading and international advanced level.

Clinical Medicine

The Vascular Surgery of the Second Hospital of Shandong University provides high quality services to patients with vascular diseases, and has formed its unique and characteristic therapy norms through the long-term clinical practice. Keeping pace with the international frontier of medical development closely, the Department takes the lead in the Province to perform vein stripping with Havst catheter under local anesthesia to treat varicosity. The surgery ensures that patients can leave immediately after it, and are not affected in daily work and life; upholding the concept of rapid restoration of venous access, the Department combines intravenous thrombolysis with mechanical embolectomy to treat phlebothrombosis, and performs IVUS-guided iliac vein stent implantation to accurately treat venous thrombosis sequelae; the Department combines traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine to achieve individualized treatment of venous ulceration, and applies characteristic techniques of drug-coated balloon, intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical embolectomy in patients with lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans. The Surgery is at first-class level in terms of endovascular exclusion of abdominal aortic aneurysm, endovascular exclusion of aortic aneurysm and dissection, endarterectomy for carotid stenosis  and stent implantation, intravenous thrombolysis of pulmonary embolism, minimally invasive therapy of Budd-Chiari syndrome, minimally invasive therapy of visceral arteries, including the mesentery artery and vein, sclerotherapy of venous malformations and lymphatic malformations, combination of traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine to treat diabetic foot and lymphedema. The Surgery takes the lead in China to perform MRDTI-guided anticoagulant thrombolysis, balloon dilatation for thrombotic stenosis of femoropopliteal vein to treat post-thrombotic syndrome(PTS), and applied 3D imaging technique in the diagnosis and treatment of iliac vein compression syndrome, etc. The Department also attaches great importance to the follow-up, science popularization, publicity and education of patients seeking medical advice from the vascular surgery. It has maintained a public WeChat public account so that every patient could keep communicating with doctors after discharge, and recover under doctors’ guidance.

Scientific Research Level

The Department has been devoted to the comprehensive diagnosis and treatment and pathogenesis study of vascular surgical diseases on a long-term basis, and published over 40 academic papers, including more than 8 included by SCI (with the highest IF of 8.4). The Department edited 5 monographs and co-edited 7 monographs, and garnered two 2nd prizes and three 3rd prizes of provincial and ministerial medical achievements.

Academic Exchange and Cooperation

The Vascular Surgery has been addressing academic exchange and cooperation by actively attending and making speeches on international, domestic and provincial academic conferences. It has established long-term cooperative relationship with Prof. Colleen Brophy from the Vascular Surgery of USA Vanderbilt University, and regularly dispatched representatives to attend academic conferences and for advanced studies, so as to master the latest progress in the research of vascular surgical diseases at home and abroad. Furthermore, the Department actively applies new techniques and methods to keep on improving its medical technical level by putting patients and quality at the center.
