The Emergency Medical Center of the Second Hospital of Shandong University was established in 1997. After several generations of unremitting efforts, it has now formed specialties with its own characteristics and academic styles, which is well-known at home and abroad. It has made outstanding contributions to the development of the emergency medicine in China. It was rated as a “Key Clinical Specialty” of Shandong Province in 2014 and elected national youth civilization. It has been granted with the rights to award the master’s degree and the doctoral degree. The Emergency Medical Center consists of 120 Pre-hospital First Aid, Pre-examination and Triage, Outpatient (expert clinic, surgery, internal medicine, neurology, cardiovascular internal medicine, trauma and plastic surgery), Rescue Room, Debridement Operating Room, Observation Room, Ward, EICU and office area, etc. It has a construction area of about 2,800 square meters.
Medical Members
It has a total of 171 staff, including 141 members devoted to medicine, teaching and research, and 30 in other positions. Among members devoted to medicine, teaching and research, there are 45 medical staff and 96 nursing staff, including 1 doctoral supervisor, 5 professors, 1 associate professor and 1 co-chief superintendent nurse. Young and middle-aged members under the age of 45 account for 88%, and those have a doctoral degree or master’s degree account for 82.5%.
Clinical Medicine
This discipline is at the international advanced level and the domestic leading level in the field of emergency aesthetic plastic surgery. It is one of the earliest in the world and the first in China to carry out emergency cosmetology and plastic surgery. The Emergency Medical Center receives and rescues emergency and severe patients with cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, various types of acute cardiac insufficiency, fatal arrhythmia, severe hypertension, various shocks, multiple organ failure, electric shock injuries, various poisonings, severe trauma/combined injuries, etc. The success rate of rescue is more than 97%, reaching the advanced level of domestic hospitals at the same level.
In recent years, this specialty has carried out in-depth, meticulous and characteristic research in the following fields: (1) diagnosis, treatment and rescue of emergency cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases; (2) treatment, aesthetic plastic surgery and reconstruction of emergency wounds (burns); (3) rescue of respiratory failure and multiple organ failure; (4) diagnosis and rescue of various poisoning. It has achieved remarkable achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of various wounds, wound infections, multiple organ failure and prevention of pathological scars.
Scientific Research Level
The Emergency Medical Center has undertaken 12 national, provincial and ministerial research projects, with total scientific research funds of RMB 3 million Yuan. It has published more than 300 papers at home and abroad, and leaded and participated in the compiling of more than 30 books. It has strong scientific research strength and good scientific research conditions. As the academic leader, Professor Jiang Duyin [A1] is a famous burn plastic surgery expert in China. He once learned from Academician Sheng Zhiyong and Fu Xiaobing, a leading authority of trauma surgery in China. He is the first medical postdoctor in the trauma (burn) specialty in Shandong Province. He is currently serving as a Committee Member of the Tissue Repair and Regeneration and the Science Popularization Branch of Chinese Medical Association, member of the Expert Committee on Capacity Building and continuing education of the National Health Commission, a Deputy Director of China Association for Disaster and Emergency Rescue Medicine, the Head Instructor of the Training Instructor Class of the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Professional Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association and the Director of Shandong Provincial Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Expert Committee, the Chairman of Science Popularization Branch of Shandong Medical Association, the Deputy Director of the Trauma Branch of Shandong Provincial Medical Association and Joint Multidisciplinary Committee on diabetic foot and chronic wounds, a Council Member of Shandong Preventive Medicine Association and the Director of the Poisoning and Clinical Emergencies Prevention and Treatment Branch, and a Doctoral Supervisor in plastic surgery for burns. He has achieved fruitful research results in the research on the mechanism of un-controlled wound repair (scar hyperplasia, chronic ulcer, pseudoepithelioma formation) and skin tissue engineering materials.
Academic Exchange and Cooperation
The Emergency Medical Center has sent more than 10 experts to many domestic hospitals for further study. It has hosted and participated in many world, international and domestic academic conferences, and delivered conference addresses.
It has invited many experts from the United States and other countries to our hospital for academic exchanges. Through such activities, we established good cooperative relations with them, and promoted academic development.
