The Laboratory Medicine Center has seven specialized sections and laboratories, including the Clinical Biochemistry Section, Clinical Immunity Section, Clinical Molecular Biology Laboratory, Clinical Microbiology Section, Blood and Liquid Test Section, Emergency Test Section and Test Section of the Southern Hospital District, as well as blood collection center, SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid detection, mass spectrometry, next-generation sequencing and other professional groups. Currently, it carries out more than 500 test items. The Laboratory Medicine Center always implements the work philosophy of “Taking Patients as the Center and Regard Quality as the Core”, adheres to the quality policy of being “Accurate, Timely, and Innovative”, and maintains close ties with the clinic. In 2019, it joined the “Mutual Recognition of Test Results in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong” Program as a cooperation unit, and successfully passed the review of ISO 15189 accreditation. It always carries out comprehensive quality management in accordance with the requirements of ISO 15189 accreditation, and works hard to achieve persistent improvement and continuous enhancement of the overall level of laboratory medicine. It strives to build a first-class standardized medical laboratory in line with international standards.
Medical Members
The Laboratory Medicine Center currently has 108 employees, including 1 National high-level talent, 1 Distinguished Taishan Scholar in Climbing Plan, 3 “Taishan Scholar” Young Experts, 2 “Qilu Young Scholars” of Shandong University, as well as 7 doctoral supervisors and 11 master’s supervisors of Shandong University. It has 10 professors, 6 associate professors, 25 doctors and 33 masters. Among them, 83.5% are the young and middle-aged under the age of 45, and 53.7% of those have a master’s degree or doctoral degree.
Both the academic leaders and doctoral supervisors are young and middle-aged scholars, who have made great achievements in many research directions. Many members of the Laboratory Medicine Center have been granted with honorary titles such as “Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions” of the National Health Commission, winners of special government allowances from the State Council, Shandong Youth Science and Technology Award, “Key Young and Middle-aged Scientific and Technological Talents” in the Health System of Shandong Province, “Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker” of Shandong Province, etc. In recent years, it has trained 22 doctoral students and 44 master students. The graduate students it trained have won the National Scholarship, the President Scholarship of Shandong University, the Yinfeng Scholarship, Outstanding Graduates in Shandong Province and other awards for more than 20 times. The Laboratory Medicine Center is a test center for the standardized training of residents in Shandong Province. It currently has 25 teachers for standardized training with clinical teaching qualifications and has accepted 26 students for standardized training.
Clinical Medicine
After years of hard work, the Laboratory Medicine Center has been at the domestic leading level in the field of laboratory medicine. In recent years, we have conducted in-depth, meticulous and characteristic research on tumor immunology and reproductive immunology, and have made outstanding achievements in the screening and early diagnosis of disease markers, as well as the transformation, research and development of diagnostic reagents.
Scientific Research Level
In recent years, the Laboratory Medicine Center has undertaken more than 50 provincial and ministerial-level projects or above, including projects of the National Key Research and Development Program, general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc. It has published more than 80 SCI papers in internationally renowned journals such as Nature Communications, Hepatology, etc. It has won more than 10 national, provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards, and leaded and participated in the compiling of more than 30 books. It has strong scientific research strength and a good scientific research atmosphere.
As the academic leader, Professor Wang Chuanxin is a National high-level talent, a Distinguished Taishan Scholar in Climbing Plan, a “Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions” of the National Health Commission, a winner of special government allowances from the State Council, an “Outstanding Academic Leader” in the health system of Shandong Province, the Chief Expert of a project of the National Key Research and Development Program, and the Chief Expert of an Innovation Team of Shandong University’s “Climbing Program”. He is currently serving as the Dean of the Second Hospital of Shandong University, the Director of Shandong Provincial Tumor Marker Detection Engineering Laboratory, the Director of Shandong Medical Laboratory Clinical Medicine Research Center. He is also serving as the Director-designate of the Laboratory Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Association, a Deputy Director of the Laboratory Doctors Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Associate Editor-in-Chief of “Chinese Journal of Laboratory Medicine”, and a Deputy Director of Shandong Provincial Medical Association, etc. The main professional direction of him is tumor markers and tumor diagnosis. In recent years, he has leaded 12 national-level projects including the National Key Research and Development Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, with a total scientific research fund of RMB 40 million Yuan. He has won 1 first prize of Technological Invention Award of the Ministry of Education, 1 first prize and 4 second prizes of Shandong Science and Technology Progress Award. He has been authorized with 12 national invention patents. He has published more than 100 SCI papers as the corresponding author. He has participated in the compilation of 5 national planning textbooks of the “11th Five-Year Plan” and “12th Five-Year Plan”. He has trained 52 master/doctoral students. Friendly cooperative relations with Harvard University (USA) and McGill University (Canada) have been established to jointly cultivate doctoral students.
As the academic leader, Professor Mao Haiting is a winner of Shandong Youth Science and Technology Award, and one of the “Key Young and Middle-aged Scientific and Technological Talents” in the Health System of Shandong Province. She is concurrently serving as the Dean of Shandong Branch of Chinese Academy of Laboratory Medicine Education, a Standing Director of Chinese Integration Alliance of Medical Inspection, a Committee Member of the Immunology Group in the Laboratory Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Association, a Deputy Director of Tumor Immunity Experimental Diagnosis Committee of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, a Committee Member of Pharmaceutical Analysis Technology Branch of China Medical Biotech Association, a Deputy Director of the Laboratory Medicine Branch of Shandong Provincial Medical Association, a Deputy Director of the Microbiology and Immunology Branch of Shandong Provincial Medical Association, a Deputy Director of Clinical Laboratory Professional Committee of Shandong Hospital Association, and a Deputy Director of the Clinical Laboratory and Disease Prevention Branch of Shandong Preventive Medicine Association. Her main professional direction is the research of tolerance mechanism in immune tolerance microenvironment. She has performed visiting researches in the United States, Sweden and Australia respectively. She has leaded 18 national, provincial and municipal-level projects, and published more than 40 SCI research papers in journals such as Nature Communications, etc., which have been cited by others for more than 200 times. She has won 5 second prizes of Shandong Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 third prizes of Shandong Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 second prize of Shandong Medical Science and Technology Award. She has obtained 7 national invention patents as the first inventor. As the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor-in-Chief, she has written 3 academic monographs of People’s Medical Publishing House.
Academic Exchange and Cooperation
The Laboratory Medicine Center has established friendly cooperative relations with UCSF and Mississippi, Harvard Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine (USA), the University of Groningen (Netherlands), and School of Medicine of the Mcgill University (Canada). It has successively sent many experts to famous universities in the United States, Sweden, Australia, Italy and so on for visit and research. It also has invited many famous experts in the field of laboratory medicine to our hospital for academic exchanges, and established good cooperative relations with them, which further promotes the development of discipline construction.
