The Cancer Center of the Second Hospital of Shandong University is a large comprehensive cancer prevention and treatment center integrating medical care, scientific research and medical education. The Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center is a member of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, including many main memebers of a variety of professional association, such as the Deputy Director of the Tumor Radiotherapy Committee of Shandong Provincial Medical Association and Shandong Medical Doctors Association, a Standing Committee Member of the Tumor Radiotherapy Committee of Shandong Anti-Cancer Association, and a Council Member of Shandong Provincial Society of Clinical Oncology. It is also a project cooperating organization of the “New Service Model Solution for Radiotherapy”, which is funded by the National Key Research and Development Program.

There are currently the following two specialties in the Cancer Center: radiotherapy and chemotherapy. It currently has more than 60 clinicians, nurses, engineers, physicists and technicians, including 2 chief physicians, 1 researcher (“Taishan Scholar Young Expert”), 4 associate chief physicians, 1 co-chief superintendent nurse, and 17 with intermediate professional titles. All clinicians have a doctoral degree or master’s degree. The Cancer Center has organizations such as the outpatient clinic, the ward, the Linear Accelerator Treatment Room, the Simulated Positioning Room, and the Radiotherapy Planning Room, etc. There are currently more than 120 hospital beds.

The Cancer Center has the most advanced therapeutic equipment all over the world, including: 2 Elekta linear accelerators, 1 CT dedicated simulated positioning system, 1 Nucletron radiotherapy simulator, 2 sets of the latest Philips Pinnacle and the US CMS radiotherapy planning system. Currently, it can perform ordinary radiotherapy, three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). It has accumulated rich clinical experience in the therapy of head and neck tumors, chest and abdomen tumors, limb soft tissue tumors, and gynecological tumors, etc.

The Cancer Center is the Clinical Oncology Teaching Base of Shandong University, the provincial Standardized Training Base for Residents, and it has been granted with the rights to award the master’s degree in oncology of Shandong University. It has 5 supervisors for graduate students. It has successively trained more than 10 graduate students and carried out standardized training for more than 200 residents.

In 2009, the ward of the Cancer Center was awarded the “Standard Nursing Service Ward” of Shandong Provincial Department of Health. In 2012, the Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center won the title of “Youth Civilization Unit” of Shandong University and the “Advanced Group Award” of our hospital. Its ward was awarded the “Excellent Nursing Ward Award” of our hospital. In 2016, it won the second prize of the “Quality Control Circle Competition” held by Shandong Provincial Department of Health. In 2017, it got the third prize of the “National Quality Control Circle Competition” and won the “Advanced Group” Award and the “Scientific Research Advanced Group” Award of our hospital.

At present, the Cancer Center is leading 4 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 10 provincial and ministerial-level projects, 2 independent innovation projects of Shandong University, 3 projects of the Scientific Research Foundation of Shandong Provincial Department of Health, 3 projects of the Shandong Provincial Foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and 3 projects of Jinan Science and Technology Bureau. It currently has research funds of more than RMB 3 million Yuan. In the past 10 years, it has published more than 60 papers in domestic core journals, of which more than 20 papers have been included in SCI. It has won 1 Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education, 1 Shandong Medical Award, and 1 New Technology Award of our hospital. It has served as the Editor-in-Chief of 2 books, the Associate Editor-in-Chief of 2 books, and participated in the compiling of 8 books.

The Cancer Center advocates multidisciplinary collaboration, integrates the medical resources of all departments in the hospital, and provides standardized and individualized comprehensive treatment for patients.
