Founded in 1997, the Dermatology & STD Department of Shandong University Qilu Second Hospital is a clinical department integrating outpatient, teaching and scientific research. With vigorous supports from the Hospital leaders and attributing to the unremitting efforts of all medical members, the Department always adheres to the service tenet of “patients supreme and quality first”. Throughout the 30-year accumulation of clinic and practical experience, the Department has absorbed successful medical experience from domestic famous hospitals, and actively applied new techniques and therapies to build the development model of “western medicine dominating and combined with traditional Chinese medicine”. The Department has become a specialty with unique features, distinct academic style and reputation in and out of Shandong Province, and been granted the right to award master’s degree in 2004. The Dermatological Department has divisions including outpatient, ward, Fungi Examination Room, Allergen Examination Room, Dermatologic Surgery Treatment Room, Phototherapy Room, Balneotherapy Room, TCM Special Treatment Room and Medical Cosmetology Room occupying a building area of about 320m2.

Medical Members

The Department currently has 19 members devoted to medicine, teaching and research, including 1 master supervisor, 3 chief physicians and 3 associate chief physicians. Members at middle and young age below 45 years old account for 80% and all doctors in the Department have a doctoral or master’s degree. The middle-aged and young doctors in the Department have multiple steady research directions and 9 masters have been cultivated.

Clinical Medicine

　The Dermatological Department is an energetic, innovative, diligent, progressive and harmonious team. Under the leadership of the academic leader Director Zhang Chunmin, the Department has set up Laser &Cryotherapy Room, Allergen Testing Room, Fungi Medical Cosmetology Room, Phototherapy/Balneotherapy Room, Photodynamic Treatment Room, Surgical Treatment Room, TCM Special Treatment Room, Medical Cosmetology Room, and Skin Imaging Diagnostic Room in succession. It is the first one applying 308-nm excimer light treatment of leucoderma, photodynamic treatment of condyloma acuminatum, acne, dermatoma, laser cosmetology, skin revitalization with tartaric acid, mesotherapy, TCM special treatment, dermatologic surgery and other treatment means in the Province with advanced equipment, reliable methods, ideal effects and extensive recognition from patients.

Scientific Research Level

The Dermatological Department has successively undertaken nearly 10 national, provincial, ministerial and commission research projects with total research grant approaching RMB 3 million Yuan. The Department has published over 100 papers on domestic and foreign journals, edited or co-edited more than 8 books, demonstrating its strong strength and good conditions in scientific research. With support from the Hospital, the Tumor Laboratory was established to further study dermatoma, psoriasis, Scar, leucoderma, photodynamic technique, etc. The academic leader Zhang Chunmin is a famous dermatologist in China, who is good at treating psoriasis, acne, condyloma acuminatum, leucoderma, herpes zoster, eczema dermatitis, alopecia, and facial pigmented dermatosis with integrative Chinese and western medicine. She also takes additional posts in domestic academic organizations and has won one 3rd Prize of Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress.

Academic Exchange and Cooperation

　The Dermatological Department has successively dispatched 8 experts to Peking University First Hospital, Nanjing Institute of Dermatology, Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine& Ruijin Hospital and such other schools for advanced study for more than 10 times. Each has developed their professional expertise. The Department has presided over, attended and exchanged on domestic academic conferences, and organized the academic meeting of Dermatological Branch of Shandong Association of Integrative Medicine once and national and provincial continued education class for two times, winning good comments from other attending representatives. The Department has successively invited 12 famous experts in China for academic exchange to significantly improve the professional technical level of the attending representatives and doctors of the Department, and establish amicable cooperation relations.
