From June 17 to 19, the "Skills Promote Shandong" Elderly Care Nursing Vocational Skills Competition was held in Dong A County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province. Competitors from the Southern Campus of the Second Hospital of Shandong University (Jinan Shande Nursing Home), GengWanyu and Li Wei, represented Jinan City in the competition. They achieved outstanding results, with GengWanyu ranking first overall and Li Wei ranking sixth, earning them first and second prizes respectively.

The Southern Campus (Jinan Shande Nursing Home) attached great importance to this "big competition". Since receiving the competition notice, the Medical and Nursing Department of the campus has carefully organized and the participants have trained hard. In the shortest time, they have mastered the basic theoretical knowledge, practiced 25 operating skills repeatedly, and continuously optimized and improved the writing of care plans. This further enhances their skill level and strengthens their adaptability to competition, demonstrating the spirit of the new era's youth in diligently studying, rigorously adhering to standards, and constantly striving for excellence, as well as their professional demeanor.

Fifty-one contestants from 16 cities across the province engaged in fierce competition. The two contestants remained calm, composed, and methodical throughout. In the theoretical foundation section, they took the lead with outstanding performance. In the practical skills section, they demonstrated clear thinking, proficient execution, and seamless communication, adeptly addressing obstacles set within the scenarios. In the continuous improvement of the care plan section, they leveraged their extensive clinical experience, integrating care theory with practical knowledge from elderly care practice. Relying on their solid theoretical foundation, exceptional professional skills, and strong psychological resilience, the two contestants stood out in the intense competition. They fully showcased the humanistic care in the nursing process and demonstrated the skills of professional elderly care nursing in the new era. It also revealed the fruitful results of their diligent research in their daily work positions.

The "Skills Promote Shandong" Vocational Skills Competition is a provincial-level competition of its kind. The Southern Campus (Jinan Shande Elderly Nursing Home) achieved excellent results in this competition. This not only demonstrates the dedication to excellence and the pursuit of excellence in the medical and health care field by the Second Hospital of Shandong University, but also serves to promote learning, training, evaluation, and development through competitions, thereby accelerating the construction of a high-skilled talent pool.

In recent years, the Southern Campus (Jinan Shande Elderly Nursing Home) has attached great importance to the training of medical and healthcare talents. It has successively been designated as the Beijing-based training base for geriatric nursing specialist nurses by the Chinese Nursing Association, the training base for geriatric nursing specialist nurses in Shandong Province, and the vocational skills training base for elderly care service personnel (elderly care nurses) in Jinan. The campus has also published a training textbook for caregivers with the People's Health Publishing House. Additionally, related projects have been included in provincial-level scientific and technological innovation programs. The campus has consistently achieved good results in provincial and municipal elderly care nursing vocational skills competitions, contributing wisdom and strength to the cause of medical and health care as well as elderly care talent development.
