Recently, the 22nd Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Medical and Pharmaceutical Award, commonly known as the "Wu Yang Prize," was officially announced. Professor Wang Chuanxin, Dean of the Second Hospital of Shandong University, was honored with the "Wu Yang Prize" in the field of clinical medicine.
The "Wu Yang Prize" was established in 1994 by the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of the National Health Commission, with approval from the Ministry of Science and Technology. It aims to recognize and reward outstanding young medical and health workers who have made significant contributions to the field of medicine and health through independent and diligent research, and are widely recognized by their peers in society. After more than twenty years of development, the Wu Yang Prize has become one of the most influential awards supported by the social community for the development of medicine and health. As of 2021, a total of 449 outstanding medical and health workers have been honored with this award, including 38 academicians. In this year's "Wu Yang Prize," there are a total of 15 awardees, including 1 recipient of the Special Contribution Award, 2 in the field of basic medicine, 6 in clinical medicine, 4 in pharmacy, and 2 in public health.
Professor Wang Chuanxin, as the future director of the China Medical Association's branch of clinical laboratory medicine, has led his team in recent years to focus primarily on "tumor markers and early diagnosis of tumors" and "establishing a key technical system for rapid detection of major infectious diseases" in response to major clinical needs in the field of clinical laboratory medicine, achieving a series of original results. He has undertaken 12 projects including the National Key Research and Development Program and the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project. He has been granted 13 national invention patents, and has published over 100 SCI papers as a corresponding author, with 2 papers selected as ESI TOP1% highly cited papers. His achievements have earned him 4 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels, including 1 first prize from the Ministry of Education for technological inventions, 1 first prize from the China Medical Science and Technology Award, and 2 first prizes from the Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award.
